Sandra and Gary Guenther lived in Simpsonville, South Carolina for decades, raising their family in a large home on two-plus sprawling acres. But, as Sandra notes, “All of the sudden, the kids are gone and you realize you don’t need or want the bigness!” That’s when this lively pair of empty nesters started looking for something smaller and easier to take care of.
“We looked at so many houses,” says Sandra. “Then, one day, we saw an ad in the paper for a NewStyle Communities 55-plus neighborhood in North Carolina.” A chat with a sales associate resulted in an invitation to come visit the NewStyle community in Simpsonville, The Villas at Carriage Hills and West Georgia, just five miles from where they lived! The rest, as they say, is history.
The Guenthers liked what they saw – all brick exteriors, high quality craftsmanship, unique interiors, no maintenance, no stairs, tons of storage, spacious garages, and a cozy neighborhood. Notes Sandra, “Like many people our age, we realized we were likely looking for our last home. We’re going to spend the rest of our lives here. We wanted to feel secure, and not have to worry about maintenance and landscaping.”
But they also wanted a home that fit their style. When the sales associate took them to look at lots, and they wanted a larger lot for some breathing room, “it was no problem at all,” says Sandra. After choosing a floor plan – the Portico – the process of choosing features and finishes was a breeze, too. “I had a good idea of what I wanted. And the team was so easy to work with.” Once construction started, “Randy kept in touch, letting us know how everything was progressing. He was so kind and cordial.
They were such good people to work with!”
Among the many features they appreciated about their new home, the Guenthers loved the quality of everything. “We were so impressed with the craftsmanship. And the systems are all high end. You don’t have to upgrade to get the good stuff.” They also love the thoughtful designs. “When you first walk in, the layout is so unique,” Sandra raves. “It’s obvious they really thought about the way each home should feel.”
After months of eager anticipation, “we moved in May – on my birthday,” recalls Sandra with a smile. “Best birthday present ever!”
So what part of their new life are they enjoying the most? “There’s so much light, even though we share a wall with another home. And I love not having stairs. My husband loves the garage – there’s plenty of room for the cars and his tool bench and toolboxes.
“We turned the ‘flex room’ into a saloon! Gary had made me a bar and saloon doors in our old house, so we brought them with us and created a bar here!”
The Guenthers say the whole process, from initial meeting all the way through to post move in, has been absolutely amazing. “Everyone has been so helpful and easy to work with.”
When asked if they would recommend The Villas at West Georgia, Sandra laughs. “We tell everyone about The Villas at West Georgia. It has so much going for it – we bring people in to see our home all the time!”
